A Day at the Beach

Living in Canberra, so far from the ocean, every opportunity to go to the beach is worth taking.  Newcastle offers that opportunity, less than a day’s travel from Canberra but far enough a way to feel like a holiday.  There’s a lot to do or see, walking along Bather’s Way or sitting at one of the many cafes along that strip, observing the passing cavalcade.

Newcastle Beach has people enjoying the beach, swimming, sunbathing, playing volleyball or just walking, basking in the sunshine. From the lighthouse on Nobby’s headland above Nobby’s Beach to Bogey Hole, the Newcastle Beach strip is a favourite place to visit. Its attractions along Bather’s Way include the Ocean Baths, Canoe Pool, Newcastle Beach and Cowrie Hole then on to Bogey Hole.

Its South East orientation offers photographic opportunities from sunrise to sundown. As a photographer, the day starts at Golden Hour at Newcastle Ocean Baths, and then through the day capturing this quintessential Australian beach scene of people enjoying surfing, swimming, sunbaking or exercising along Bather’s Way, until the sun sets at Nobby’s Beach.
